As part of the “Khulambuula Elgon” campaign, hundreds of Ugandans have traveled on a 4-day tourism excursion to the Elgon region in the country’s east with a team led by the State Minister for Tourism Martin Mugarra and the Uganda Tourism Board CEO, Lilly Ajarova.
The campaign which seeks to showcase Elgon’s untapped tourism potential is part of Uganda Tourism Board’s continuous push to market Uganda as a destination of choice.
The group was flagged off at the Uganda museum together with artists like Sheebah Karungi, renowned kickboxer Golola Moses, and the comedy duo of Madrat & Chiko later joined the squad as well and they were welcomed by the chairman of the Uganda Tourism Board, Daudi Migereko at Jinja bridge.
The tourism minister noted that the Elgon region is one of the most prized in the country, boasting many tourist attractions, nature and beauty and Ugandans must come see it for themselves.nHe also rallied support around inititatives like the one the team was undertaking in order to grow the tourism sector even further.
“To build a resilient tourism sector, we encourage Ugandans to continue travelling. We are also encouraging local communities on matters of conservation and sustainability as well as bringing on board private sector players to popularize drives such as Explore Elgon,” he said.
The group is set to tour several areas including; Sipi Falls, Wanale Hill, and Semei Kakungulu Historical site among others.
